FAQs

What is a Doula?

A doula provides emotional, physical, and spiritual support with in the birth ceremony. Taken from the Greek language to mean female slave (I hate it too, I know), it is now well known as an experience companion for women prenatally, in labor, and through early postpartum.

Why are Doulas/Birth Keepers even a thing?

Great question (it was mine hehe)! Doulas have been a farily new profession to spring up out of the natural birth movements. Attending births as a community member dates back to the first human, but as a named, monetary profession- that’s pretty new.

What’s your long term goals here Hannah?

So glad you asked! I am working towards an absolution of the doula profession. I dream of a time when women on the path to birth fully take responsibility for their health, trust their baby, and only engage a medical doctor if absolutely necessary. Doulas exist because of the gaps between what our medical system provides and what parents say that they want.

What gives you life Hannah?

I feel the spirit (life) when a woman claims her birthright.

I see spirit when a baby choses life, not just a breath, the soul enters the body.

I experience spirit when a woman acknowledges the incredible, unchangeable path that she joins when pregnant. That she should be revered because it is a path that always culminates in birth. Whether that birth comes 10 weeks after conception or 43 weeks. It is a portal opened.

When should I start working with a doula/birth keeper?

Whenever you want. If you value having more resources and time to prepare, then 20 weeks is great.
